Workshop 2.0

With the business growing and Crankworkshop becoming a full-time job for me, I decided to build a new workshop in 2024 to take my business to the next level.

I got some professionals in to lay the concrete foundation, thanks to A & P Construction Ltd for doing a great job and getting me off to a good start. I was keen to complete the rest of the workshop build on my own as much as possible.

I bought the workshop from Dunster House. I needed something that was going to go up quickly, but be strong enough to last a long time and be warm and comfortable enough to work in all year round.

The took some time measuring for the base to make sure everything was square before beginning to build up the walls. The walls went up incredibly quickly.

I called in a couple of mates to help get the roof on as the main beams we’re really heavy. Panelling and felting the roof was an arduous task so I’m glad I had some help for that. 4 days in total, 3 on my own and 1 with help to get it to this point.

The interior took a lot longer to complete than the outside. I wanted it to be fully insulated as I’ll be wokring in it all year round. I also wanted loads of light and power, as well as strong interior walls for hanging tools. I went for 25mm Celotex insulation on the floor, roof and walls, and then clad it with 15mm plywood.

With the walls finished the rest seems to come together quite quickly. I put down some vinyl flooring so that the workshop can be easily cleaned. And then cracked on with building the workbenches from scratch.

The it was just the final touches, a few shelving units, peg boards, storage boxes, and a nice padded floor. And it was ready for action.
